Surf in Barbate

The lighthouse:
Next to the historic lighthouse of Trafalgar, you will find several waves in a privileged setting, protected from the Poniente wind. It’s a long right hand wave, perfect for a longboard, which comes in during low tide. On this beach, there is a wave called Marisucia which is suitable for an intermediate level. We go there often to teach at this level and the breaks are best on full tide. There are other great wave peaks nearby for experienced surfers.

The Apartments:
Between the lighthouse and the Parque Natural de la Breña lies a crowd-pulling enclosure to the left of the apartments which hosts a wave at low tide with western or northern wind and ensures super fun sessions over the reef

Hierbabuena:
Perhaps the best known spot in Andalusia. After a long walk from the port of Barbate, we find a lengthy right-hand break below the cliffs of the natural park, which on its best days offers world-class waves. It needs ground swell and northern or western wind to break. Right next to it is El Martillo, an easier and lower wave, but requires some serious skill when it’s big.
